NZTRI’s indigenous tourism research programme’s primary objective is to provide the opportunity for post-graduate scholarship to be undertaken in a supportive environment, paying special attention to kaupapa Māori.

Areas of interest include:

• The politics of place
• Cultural identity and tourism
• Discourse of development
• Colonisation, globalisation and tourism development
• Supply and demand for indigenous tourism product
• Authenticity and the display of culture
