2007 Pasifika Festival Stallholder Survey

As organisers of this event, Auckland City commissioned NZTRI to conduct a survey of festival stallholders. The survey was designed to provide basic information of stallholders including some financial information, satisfaction with the festival and suggestions to improvements, as well as thoughts on a future web-based survey format.

The benefits of Events & National Identity: Annotated bibliographies

This project involved an extensive literature review of the events tourism literature focussing on the nature and range of benefits typically accruing from sporting events to New Zealand, and the extent to which sporting events can develop national identity and national pride. NZTRI compiled two annotated bibliographies for SPARC in early 2007.

The Local Impacts of the Lindauer Queenstown Winter Festival 2006

Destination Queenstown commissioned the New Zealand Tourism Research Institute to conduct research into the local economic and social impacts that the Festival has on the Queenstown local area, businesses and residents. In this study we review domestic and international visitor characteristics, business and community attitudes and impacts, and the income generation capability of the Lindauer Queenstown Winter Festival. This project was completed in early 2007.

Understanding and Enhancing the Economic Yield of Sporting Events

In conjunction with the AUT Division of Sport and Recreation's Geoff Dickson, NZTRI four events in 2005: the Kururau Krusher multisport race in Taumaranui, the Women's Special K Triathlon in Taupo, the ARC 12 & 24 hour race in the Coromandel, and the ASB Waiheke Island Challenge. This research forms part of our T.R.A.C.E. (Tourism Research & Community Empowerment) programme and studies the economic impact of visitors to small regional towns to compete in ‘micro’ sporting events. The research involved surveying businesses and administering a web based survey to competitors.

The 2005 Sir Barry Curtis 10k Classic Local Economic Impacts

Commissioned by Manukau City Council, this research assesses the economic impacts of the Sir Barry Curtis 10k Classic race on the local Manukau City economy. The research involved a web-based survey of race participants. We review visitor characteristics and expenditure, and the income generation associated with the event. The data obtained from this research was also fed into the online calculator on the T.R.A.C.E. website.
